On day four of the Air New Zealand Crazy About Rugby tour we woke the girls up in their queen size bed! Did you know motorhomes can fit queen sized beds in them?
It was time for the Air New Zealand campervans and their crew to depart Blenheim and head to Christchurch. If you’ve ever been up and about in Blenheim at sunrise, you’ll know that it’s pretty special.
Along the way we managed to get the campervans driving down a real airport runway. It’s true and it’s all on camera, although probably not recommended when you go on a New Zealand campervan hire trip of your own!
Then it was down the Kaikoura coast to see if we could spy any whales and continue the campervan convoy to Christchurch, a campervan rental New Zealand must see.
Once in Christchurch and after a well-deserved sleep at the Christchurch Top Ten Holiday Park where there’s all kinds of accommodation especially for New Zealand motorhome hire, it was on to pick up the All Blacks (breathe people!) and take them to meet the Burnside and New Brighton Little Rippa rugby teams.
As the All Blacks presented the Little Rippas with their Air New Zealand Crazy About Rugby jerseys and tickets to the All Blacks vs Fiji charity match, you could almost touch the excitement. The kids carved up the Burnside Rugby Club field impressing the All Blacks, and headed home to prepare for their next week’s adventure.
For the Air New Zealand staff though, it was time to farewell their campervans and head back to reality. I’m sure we’ll see them again when they next go on a New Zealand campervan hire experience with their family and friends.

We headed down to Auckland’s bustling Viaduct area to ask some travelers what they thought of New Zealands biggest city and their flights to Auckland. Here are some of the highlights these travelers experienced. This traveller thought the 360 degree views from One Tree Hill were spectacular. This dormant, volcanic cone is surrounded by the lush and green Cornwall Park and the Stardome Observatory.

Before bidding farewell to Taupo, we just had to get the Air New Zealand Campervan team’s adrenaline pumping and what better way than to take the Huka Jet at Huka Falls for a spin. Plus we got some footage of their ear piercing screams and the team in those stylish goggles. A definite must do for any New Zealand campervan hire experience.
There was also some water rafting races going on in the Tauranga – Taupo River and, as expected, someone ended up in the water. Thankfully, the campervans were close by with a change of clothes.
To get to Otaki we had to go through Tongariro National Park on the Desert Road. I think there may have been a bit of snow somewhere along the way. Thank goodness there’s a heater in the campervan.
The campers passed through Taihape on State Highway 1 on the way to Otaki and got to check out the famous Taihape corrugated iron gumboot. We did miss the gumboot festival though but if you’re interested in checking this out when you get your own New Zealand motorhome hire, it’s in early 2012.
A few hours later and a few gumboots passed, the campers arrived at the fabulous Byron’s Resort Holiday Park and Camping Ground in Otaki Beach for the night. Sleep tight Air New Zealand Crazy About Rugby Campervans, the way to go for campervan rental New Zealand.

Out here in the outback, pubs and petrol stops are the hub of the universe. It is not unusual to travel 300 km between fuel stations. Renner Springs is one such stop, slap bang in the middle of nowhere. It is sustained by a natural spring. All fruit, vegetables and meat come from Adelaide 2,206 km south and petrol supplies are freighted 836 km from Darwin. I interviewed Jasmine, a bar maid at Renner for the last two years.

If Queenstown were a person, it would be a teenager. So, the best way to appreciate Queenstown is to act like a teenager and do things for the first time, like skydiving or bungy jumping. Stay up and party all night.
